Colts Quarterback Daniel Jones Faces Major Injury
The 2025 NFL season has ended on a disappointing note for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, who is sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury sustained last week.
This setback is significant for the Colts, a team that was eyeing a playoff berth. For Jones, the timing is tough, particularly since he will hit the free-agent market in March.
Jones joined the Colts on a demo contract this season, following a rough 2024 stint with the New York Giants. They had drafted him sixth overall in 2019, but after initially signing him to a long-term deal, they released him mid-season. Nevertheless, he won the starting role over Anthony Richardson, the Colts’ No. 4 pick in 2023, and delivered impressive performances under head coach Shane Steichen.
Jones has stated that he’s determined to support the team from the sidelines, while star receiver Michael Pittman Jr. echoes the sentiment many teammates share: they hope to see Jones back in 2026.
“Absolutely,” Pittman said when asked if Jones deserves a new contract. “I would love to have him here, and the work he’s put in should definitely be considered.”
Jones came alarmingly close to hitting his career high in yardage, completing 261 out of 381 attempts for 3,101 yards over just 13 games. He set a personal best in completion percentage at 68%, throwing for 19 touchdowns against only one interception. He also contributed five points to the Colts’ totals.
The seven-year veteran seems to have found his rhythm with this new team, supported by key players like Pittman and rookies Ty Warren, Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs. Running back Jonathan Taylor has also been showcasing MVP-worthy talent this season.
The injury complicates things for Jones, as franchises typically want to invest significant money in healthy quarterbacks. Besides the Achilles issue, he has previously struggled with injuries—including a fractured fibula, which might have influenced this latest setback. He also tore his ACL in 2023 while managing an illness during his time with the Giants.
Still, if he makes a timely recovery, it looks like Indianapolis could be home for Jones for the foreseeable future.
“I’m really lucky to be here,” Jones shared last month. “Last year was all about figuring out my future and where I’d end up. Being able to join the Colts and play here has been incredible. I’ve learned a lot from my time in New York.”
Pittman has also connected with Oral-B, which was recently recognized as the official toothbrush of the NFL, for promotional content. Alongside the beloved Colts mascot, Blue, they’ve shared some fun moments.
Pittman and Blue were playfully promoting the iO Series electric toothbrush, with Pittman emphasizing the importance of maintaining a great smile. “Oral-B has the perfect cleaning power for those looking to shine on and off the field,” he noted.
