Michael W. Smith Believes in a Coming Spiritual Awakening
Grammy Award-winning musician Michael W. Smith recently expressed his belief in a long-awaited spiritual awakening—a concept that many Christians have fervently prayed for over the decades. Smith, a notable figure in the contemporary Christian music scene since the 1980s, has played a significant role in shaping the genre with his chart-topping albums and anthems. He collaborated with King & Country on a memorable performance of their 1990 hit at the 2025 K-Love Fan Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
Reflecting on current events, Smith shared, “I think I’m quite upset, and I can feel that on America and university campuses.” He noted a sense of awakening in places like Europe and Africa, where miracles and transformations are clearly happening amidst struggles and darkness.
“This is something we’ve prayed for years,” Smith continued. “I actually believe I’ll witness it in my lifetime, and that’s the most exciting part for me. It feels like God is moving in the world, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
In recent weeks, Smith has been busy, notably leading a musical service in Berlin at the European Missionary Congress organized by the Billy Graham Evangelical Society. He’s also released a new song, “Arms Around the Sun,” which will be featured in an upcoming project.
He touched on mentorship, saying he feels called to guide younger artists. “I think I’ll be coaching for the rest of my life, even if I never record again. Why wouldn’t I? I have a lot to offer,” he remarked. He shared how young artists often come to him for advice on maintaining success and family life, and he feels he has valuable insights to share.
Smith emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people. “I’ve been part of a prayer group for 36 years,” he stated. “And I’ve been married to an incredible woman of God for over 43 years. As I get older, I see the need to remain steadfast and continue on this path.”
