Caitlin Clark’s All-Star Voting Raises Eyebrows
Caitlin Clark received the ninth-best All-Star voting ranking among WNBA players, which sparked curiosity on social media about how that came to be. Former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya voiced her thoughts on the matter, hinting at jealousy among Clark’s peers.
During an appearance on Outkick’s “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakic,” Tafoya shared her perspective, saying, “I really thought we were making progress here, Dan. We saw her teammates lifting her up, and I assumed that might ease some of the obsession regarding Caitlin Clark.” She further expressed that while there seems to be a strong dislike directed at Clark, it may actually stem from jealousy, especially considering her successful State Farm commercial.
Clark, who serves as a WNBA All-Star Game captain, along with Nafisa Collier from the Minnesota Lynx, topped the fan vote and placed fourth in the media vote.
Tafoya echoed sentiments shared by many, expressing disbelief at Clark’s low ranking. Some speculate it may be due to her recent struggles with jump shots and having played just nine out of 16 Fever games this season. However, Tafoya dismissed these excuses. “Ninth-best guard? Don’t tell me it’s because she’s had rough patches or missed games due to injury. This might just be some activist voting within the WNBA.”
People are paying attention to how Clark is performing, given that she averages 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and five rebounds in over 33 minutes of play this season. Alyssa Thomas of Phoenix Mercury was selected by coaches to be one of the 12 All-Star Game reserves, and she’s been noted for having more assists per game.
Clark has garnered significant support, with over 1.2 million fan votes. Her presence has been pivotal in elevating the popularity of the WNBA, especially after breaking rookie records last season, though her journey has not been without controversy.
This season has seen tensions on the court, too. For instance, a physical altercation occurred when Clark was knocked to the ground during a game. Later, her teammate Sophie Cunningham retaliated in another incident, leading to further escalation.
Clark has undeniably become a focal point of discussion in national sports conversations, especially following instances involving teams like the Sun and Chicago Sky.
