Rep. Haley Stevens Criticizes Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
On Thursday, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) shared her intention to draft an article criticizing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding his role in the Department of Health and Human Services.
Michigan Democrats have voiced strong accusations against Kennedy, claiming he has breached his oath and shown himself to be “unfit to serve.”
“RFK Jr. is undermining our nation’s safety and making healthcare less accessible for Michigan residents,” Stevens commented in a statement. “His lack of scientific understanding, persistent spread of conspiracy theories, and total disregard for dedicated research from leading American doctors is both reckless and alarming.”
Stevens expressed that this initiative is necessary because, quite frankly, we need leaders who respect facts and scientific integrity. “That’s why we are taking steps to draft this article against Secretary Kennedy,” she added.
The Congresswoman highlighted that her article will delve into several critical issues, notably the funding cuts for medical research under the health department. She accused Kennedy of making radical changes at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and politicizing decisions within the Food and Drug Administration.
The article is expected to also critique Kennedy’s vaccine policies. Stevens stated that they’re “severely limiting access to vaccines, spreading unfounded conspiracy theories, jeopardizing lives, and driving up medical expenses.”
Stevens pointed out recent actions suggesting mismanagement, such as the federal recommendations for COVID-19 vaccinations for pregnant women and healthy children, alongside the HHS Secretary’s move to halt research on mRNA vaccines.
Furthermore, Stevens referred to issues like “restricting access to Tylenol” and some “wild and baseless claims” made in the White House linking acetaminophen with autism.
Lawmakers have accused RFK Jr. of being deceptive during his confirmation hearing, particularly when he assured Bill Cassidy (R-LA.), chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, that he would maintain the CDC vaccine advisory panel unchanged.
“Kennedy has betrayed his oath and demonstrated he’s unworthy of serving the American people,” Stevens remarked. “Congress needs to intervene to hold him accountable, and I will champion the efforts to remove him from office.”
As of yet, the Department of Health and Human Services has not responded to requests for comments related to these criticisms.
