Investigation into Incident at High School Volleyball Game in Michigan

The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) announced on Monday that it is still “gathering information” concerning an incident that occurred during a girls’ high school volleyball match involving an OutKick reporter.

Dan Zaksheske, who was covering the game for OutKick, detailed the harassment he faced while attending the match between Ann Arbor Skyline High School and Dexter last Thursday night. The Skyline team has reportedly had a successful season, in part due to the participation of transgender athletes.

Zaksheske recounted being followed throughout the game by Ann Arbor Skyline Principal Casey Elmore, as well as being harassed by supporters of the team. He even reached out to local police, requesting an officer to be present as a precaution. Eventually, a police official arrived near the game’s conclusion.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Ann Arbor Public Schools for their perspective on the matter.

“I felt this was a total failure on the part of both the MHSAA and Ann Arbor Public Schools,” Zaksheske shared with Fox News Digital. “It’s hard to understand how an educator can stand by and allow such behavior, especially when a principal witnesses someone being harassed on school property.”

The MHSAA has been approached for an update on the status of its investigation and whether any precautions will be taken to ensure other reporters are safe from similar harassment.

MHSAA spokesperson Jeff Kimmerley provided a brief response, stating, “As of Friday afternoon, we are still gathering information regarding the reports from Thursday night, but the safety of everyone at our events is our top priority.” He mentioned that he had communicated this to Zaksheske.

However, Kimmerley didn’t address specific inquiries regarding the investigation’s details, including whether Zaksheske or any other relevant parties had been contacted.

Zaksheske noted that he has yet to hear from the MHSAA concerning the ongoing inquiry into the incident.

Looking ahead, Ann Arbor Skyline is set to compete against DeWitt High School for the state regional semifinals on Tuesday at Mason High School.

When asked if additional safety measures would be implemented, Mason High School Principal Miria Lilly declined to comment. Similarly, Superintendent Dr. Gary Kinser of Mason Public Schools did not respond immediately regarding inquiries about potential safety enhancements.
