Michigan receives notice of allegations from NCAA over sign-stealing scandal

Michigan has officially been warned.

The NCAA has sent a Notice of Charge to the University of Michigan in connection with its investigation into allegations of sign-stealing by former analyst Connor Stallions. CBS Sports reported.

“The NCAA can confirm that a Notice of Allegations was served to the school and its officials in the Michigan investigation,” the NCAA said in a statement to the outlet. “To protect the integrity of the infractions process as the case progresses, the NCAA will not comment further on the details of the allegations.”

According to university athletics governing body policy, Michigan has 90 days to respond to the notice and, once it receives a response, a meeting will be set for the Wolverines program to appeal to the Committee on Infractions.

Before winning the national championship last season, the University of Michigan was at the center of a major scandal.

Stallions is accused of masterminding a complex scheme to steal opposing teams’ signs, which included purchasing tickets to more than 30 games and using “illegal technology” to tap rival teams’ signals.

A draft of the allegations notice was made public three weeks ago, but there was reportedly one difference between the leaked draft and the official notice.

Former staff members Jesse Minter and Denard Robinson have reportedly opted to work through a negotiated settlement with the NCAA. NBC Sports’ Nicole Auerbach reports.

University of Michigan coach Sherone Moore faces a possible suspension following allegations that he deleted text messages between himself and the Stallions.

Moore’s situation is a little different as he could be considered a repeat offender due to a new investigation into illegal recruiting practices during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Former University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, who has since taken over as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, has been suspended three games by the Big Ten.
