Michigan retains employee involved with dismissed coach Sherrone Moore

University of Michigan Staff Retains Position Amid Controversy

The University of Michigan is still employing a football staff member who is said to have had a romantic relationship with the recently fired head coach, Sherrone Moore. This unnamed woman has worked as Moore’s executive assistant.

A spokesperson from Michigan State confirmed there has been “no change to her employment status.”

Interestingly, women’s salaries are projected to rise notably between 2024 and 2025.

The staff member associated with Moore is listed on his LinkedIn as an executive assistant for the head football coach and earned about $58,000 in 2023 and 2024. However, her salary reportedly surged to $99,000 for the fiscal year 2025.

During Moore’s arraignment, prosecutors claimed that he and the assistant shared a “long-standing, intimate relationship,” although the woman stated that it ended recently. Prosecutors also mentioned that Moore had repeatedly texted and called her, urging her to report the situation to the university and cooperate with ongoing inquiries.

After posting a $25,000 bail, Moore was released from jail. Yet, it’s unclear if he will return home.

Moore’s attorney, Joseph Simon, didn’t specify whether Moore would be going back to his family—his wife and three daughters. When pressed about Moore’s mood following the indictment, Simon also chose to remain tight-lipped.

Moore, who has been married since 2015, has three children: Shiloh, Solei, and Sadie. Conditions for his release include wearing a GPS tether, continuing mental health treatment, and refraining from contacting the victim.

Following his termination, the University of Michigan quickly indicated it had uncovered credible evidence of an “inappropriate relationship” with an employee. Moore was detained shortly after news of his firing broke.

He faced charges in court for stalking and burglary, with a felony count of third-degree burglary and two misdemeanor counts related to stalking and trespassing, specifically around “domestic relations.”

According to prosecutors, his firing led him to forcibly enter the woman’s home, allegedly brandishing a butter knife and kitchen shears while making threats about his life. Statements purportedly made by him included, “My blood is on your hands,” and “You ruined my life.” Prosecutors expressed concerns about Moore allegedly threatening staff and identified him as a potential threat to public safety.
