Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl who was hit and killed by a car last week after her parents put her to bed.

According to police, officers were dispatched at 8:20 p.m. on September 13th to a “vehicle and pedestrian traffic accident” in Allen Township, 115 miles west of Detroit.

“Upon arriving on scene, officers discovered a two-year-old girl lying in the roadway,” a police statement said.

The toddler, who has not been identified, was taken to Hillsdale Hospital where she later died, authorities said. The girl's parents had put her to bed inside the home before going outside, police said.
