Connor Stallions will be returning to football after a short hiatus.
Stallions, a former Marine captain who resigned from the University of Michigan football team last season after being accused of masterminding an elaborate sign-stealing scheme, is the new defensive coordinator at Mumford High School in Detroit.
“We just hired the most hated guy in college football right now, Connor Stallions,” said William McMichael, the school’s head coach. He told The Detroit News“He’s my defensive coordinator.”
The Stallions will tell their story about the sign-stealing scandal for the first time in a Netflix documentary set to be released later this month.
The former staff member resigned from the University of Michigan in November, and his lawyer, Brad Beckwith, denied that then-coach Jim Harbaugh had any knowledge of the sign-stealing scheme.
“Connor has chosen to resign because recent public reports regarding his history at Michigan have caused confusion for the team,” his lawyer said at the time. “He hopes that his resignation will allow the team and coaching staff to focus on tomorrow’s game and the remainder of the season.”

“Conner also wishes to clarify that to his knowledge, neither Coach Harbaugh nor any other coaches or staff directed anyone to break any rules or were aware of any inappropriate conduct regarding the recent advance scouting allegations.”
Michigan defeated Washington in the finals to win the national championship.
McMichael, the high school coach who gave the Stallions another chance, said he’s not worried about the NCAA’s ongoing investigation into the sign-stealing scheme.
“I’m not worried,” McMichael said. “Whatever happens in the NCAAs doesn’t matter to us here at Mumford. He comes in here every day and gives 120 percent. All the kids love him and we’re all learning from him.”
