Mick Foley Parts Ways with WWE Over Trump Connection
WWE icon Mick Foley announced on Tuesday that he is leaving WWE, citing the organization’s connections to former President Donald Trump’s administration as the primary reason. At 60, Foley has been a vocal critic of Trump and expressed his opposition as the 2024 presidential campaign approaches.
Foley shared his thoughts on Instagram, expressing concern over WWE’s relationship with Trump, which he felt had become increasingly troubling. The final straw for him appeared to be Trump’s harsh comments following the death of director Rob Reiner, which, according to Foley, reflected a broader pattern of inhumane treatment towards immigrants and other marginalized groups.
He stated, “I’ve been concerned about WWE’s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months… Last night I informed WWE talent officials that as long as this man remains in his job, I will not be appearing with the company.” Foley added that he also has no plans to renew his contract when it expires in June. While he expressed love for WWE and gratitude for the opportunities he has had, he feels he cannot continue under the current circumstances.
Fox News has reached out to WWE for comments regarding Foley’s departure. Foley, a three-time WWE Champion, is well-known for his participation in hardcore matches and has had a memorable career across various wrestling promotions.
Trump’s connections with WWE date back years, with his former Trump Plaza having sponsored multiple WrestleMania events. Foley’s departure marks a significant shift, illustrating the complex interplay between sports entertainment and politics.
