Microsoft is set to cut jobs as part of a workforce reduction.
This move will decrease the total workforce at tech companies based in Washington by about 3%. A report from Tuesday indicated that this will mean roughly 6,000 job losses.
A spokesperson for Microsoft confirmed that there is still a recruitment strategy in place and emphasized, “we are continuing to make the necessary organizational changes to prepare our company for success in the fast-moving market.”
Microsoft aims to streamline its processes, procedures, and roles, and is looking to reduce management layers to enhance efficiency and speed up operations.
As of June 2024, Microsoft employed around 228,000 people worldwide, although the company has already made some job reductions.
Microsoft reduces 1,900 positions in gaming
During the third-quarter revenue call in April, CFO Amy Hood noted that Microsoft’s workforce at the end of March was “2% higher” than the previous year, but showed a “slight decrease” compared to the second quarter.
The layoffs, as reported by CNBC, will affect employees at various levels across different teams and locations globally.
Microsoft plans to utilize new technologies and capabilities to help employees concentrate on more meaningful tasks.
