Migrant Apprehensions at Border Fall Slightly in First Post-Title 42 Month

CBP officials said arrests of migrants by Border Patrol agents along the southwestern border dropped about 9% in May. Concerns eased slightly after the Biden administration ended its Title 42 COVID-19 immigration deportation program.

According to an unofficial Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas, Border Patrol agents arrested more than 165,000 migrants who traveled between ports of entry across the southwestern border from Mexico. This is down about 9% from the more than 182,000 immigrants in April.

The arrests in May bring the total number of Southwestern border migrant arrests in FY23 to just over 1.4 million. This is less than 2% difference for him compared to the same period last year. By the end of FY2022, investigators had arrested a record-breaking 2.2 million immigrants along nine border regions in the Southwest.

In the days leading up to the end of Title 42, immigration unrest surged to a record pace of over 10,000 immigrants per day, Breitbart Texas reported. At the time, the Rio Grande Valley sector was arresting approximately 3,000 people per day.

The Rio Grande Valley district remained the busiest of the nine border districts in the southwest due to the high daily arrest rate during the first 10 days of May. Investigators in this area arrested more than 36,000 migrants in May.

It was followed by the Tucson sector (30,000), the Del Rio sector (30,000), the El Paso sector (26,000), and the San Diego sector (23,000). These numbers are approximations based on unofficial border patrol reports reviewed by Breitbart.

Nearly 51,000 migrants were classified as known fugitives, in addition to approximately 165,000 migrants arrested along the southwestern border. This brings the number of known migrants to over 216,000.
