Migrants Are ‘The Lifeblood of this Country’

Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler believes immigrants are America's “lifeblood,” but Americans and their children are not.

Nadler is the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. made an instinctive argument He said this at a hearing Thursday as he denounced criticism of immigration to the United States and his hometown of New York.

We will hear arguments that are largely unfounded and that the laws are wrong: that immigrants are not the lifeblood of this country but are depriving us of a public good.

“How can… [the migrant share] Does one in six people represent the lifeblood of the entire country? ” Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, responded: He continued:

It's not just mathematical nonsense, it's insulting… This shows that they think Americans are not any good people, and that we need better people from abroad to live in our country. It clearly shows that.

They're saying that Americans are decadent and not good enough, and someone needs to come in to replace them or wake them up. They say Americans have become soft and need competition. It's like big businessmen and factory owners who oppose unions so they don't make too many demands on their workers.

“It's a metaphor [and] It's clearly a derogatory usage, but they certainly don't take it in a racial sense,” Krikorian said.

Along with his “pedigree” comments, Nadler rubbed salt into the wound by claiming that immigrants are more important than Americans and are replacing Americans' absentee births.

This country needs immigrants. Forget the fact that our vegetables would rot in the ground if not harvested by many immigrants, many illegal immigrants.

The fact is that the country's birth rate is well below replacement level, which means the population will start to decline…this is a problem facing all major countries in the world. But few countries have the means to solve this problem through immigration. People want to immigrate to the United States…we're very fortunate in that respect, and we need to encourage that and properly regulate it.

Nadler, like his colleague Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), sees evidence that immigration is the cause, not the cure, for Americans' declining birthrate amid stagnant wages and rising housing costs. did not mention that it was increasing.

“They say it's Americans' job to have children, so it's up to Congress to source more bodies through immigration,” Krikorian said, adding:

It is the government's responsibility to make sure that barriers are removed so that people can have as many children as they want, but survey data shows that couples are not having as many children as they would like.

Nadler's derogatory comments about Americans are common among pro-immigration Democrats.

“one day, [illegal] Rep. Delia Ramirez (D), a Chicago-born daughter of illegal immigrants, spoke at a September 2023 hearing.

At the same hearing where Mr. Nadler spoke, Indian-born Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said, “Study after study shows that the U.S. economy, both documented and undocumented, has been proven to be driven by immigration.”

Nadler's “pedigree” comments came after a media firestorm over Donald Trump's comments in October. claimed In September, he said immigrants were “contaminating the blood of our country.”

Trump took a different view, downplaying the economic factors that draw or push reasonable immigrants to the United States. explanation Immigration and migration situation:

We know they are from prison. We know they come from psychiatric hospitals and psychiatric hospitals. We know they are terrorists…it is poisoning the blood of our country. The situation is very bad and more and more sick people are arriving.

The Democratic Party pounced.

But critics avoided mentioning that America's elites refuse to rein in policies like increased immigration, free trade and diversity to promote national unity.

For example, Krugman's colleague David French said: new york times Explained the growing gap between elites and ordinary people:

But Krugman, French, Moussa, and their progressive allies failed to notice the many “blood” quotes from Democrats and pro-immigration Republicans.

“We must recognize that our diversity and immigrants are the lifeblood of this city,” said Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) Said “We need to increase the number of visas for people who want to enter the country legally.”

Immigrants can also be better workers for some employers, Krikorian noted.

When employers say “immigrants are better workers,” that's not really the case [better than] This is the average for federal employees in the United States. What they're saying is that immigrants are better workers than any American they can hire — and that's probably true of immigrant employers, too.

But “that's no excuse for more immigration, because they're not going anywhere, whether it's ex-offenders or recovering addicts. They're our fellow citizens, and we want them We have to help,” he added.
