Migrants Arriving from ‘Corners of the Globe’

The claim: Former President Donald Trump has said migrants are arriving at the US-Mexico border from “every part of the globe.”

The verdict: It’s true. The latest Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data reveals that the share of migrants encountered at the border who are from outside North America has increased during President Joe Biden’s term.

On Friday, after a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts, including falsifying business records, Trump held a press conference at Trump Tower in New York City to blast Biden over record levels of illegal immigration.

“Our borders are open. Our borders will be closed soon,” Trump said.

November 5th will be the most important day in our nation’s history. Who on earth wants open borders, allowing people to come in from unknown countries, from unknown places, speaking languages they’ve never heard? There are people in schools where very few people have ever heard of these languages - they’re not obscure languages like Spanish or French or Russian.

People come from all over the world Many of them are not good people. There are many terrorists. Terrorists are coming into our country in record numbers. [emphasis added].

Indeed, the latest Department of Homeland Security data shows an increase in migrants arriving at the southern border from remote parts of the world.

Andrew Arthur of the Centre for Immigration Studies examination DHS data found an increasing percentage of migrants coming to the border from Africa, China, Eastern Europe, India, Russia, Southeast Asia and Turkey.

Arthur wrote:

Through the first seven months of fiscal year 2024, [Customs and Border Protection] … More than 1.52 million denied “admission applicants” were encountered, of which approximately 750,000 were “non-Mexican,” “non-Northern Triangle,” and “non-Nicaraguan” foreign nationals. — 49.3 percent of the total.

This includes 27,700 Chinese nationals, 16,668 Indians, 9,383 Russians, 7,486 Turkish nationals and, most ominously, 106,298 foreigners listed simply as “other.” This is another country that is not among CBP’s top 20 sending countries. As of fiscal year 2021, apprehensions totaled just over 17,500.

The “others” include nationals of African countries, people from Southeast Asia, and countless Europeans. (Most are Eastern European, especially the 857 Romanians listed, but you’d be surprised at how many other EU nationals are on the list). [emphasis added].

Compare that to President Trump’s presidency in 2019, when more than seven in 10 migrants arriving at the border were from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, and nearly two in 10 were from Mexico.

“We are losing our country,” Trump said.
