Migrants released from jail after brutal NYPD cop assault reportedly skip town, show zero remorse: ‘We don’t have an answer’

Law enforcement officials believe four of the immigrants accused of attacking a New York City police officer went on the run after being released from prison.

Last weekend, a group of migrants was caught on surveillance camera punching two NYPD officers outside a Times Square migrant shelter. Police arrested seven male immigrants, all between the ages of 19 and 24, on suspicion of assaulting police officers. Despite the nature of the allegations, six of the immigrants were released without bail.

Once released from detention, the migrants showed no remorse for their alleged participation in the attack and ignored news cameras.

Police now believe four of the migrants have fled the state.

CNN report:

But four of the suspects were given bus tickets by a faith-based charity and released, making their way to Calexico, a California town on the U.S.-Mexico border, a senior police official said. Details about which suspects were on the bus were not immediately available, but officials told CNN that four immigrant men who were staying at a New York City shelter had purchased tickets for the bus. Officials also told CNN that because prosecutors had asked for the migrants to be released without bail on their own recognizance, police had “no legal authority to pursue or try to stop them.” Ta. One source acknowledged to CNN that it was “unlikely” that the defendants would return for their next court date “given the circumstances at the time of their departure.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) appearance of going easy on violent criminals accused of fleeing the Big Apple is creating a new controversy for far-left prosecutors.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said he believes the immigrants should not have been released from prison, and Gov. Kathy Hochul said the immigrants should be deported.

Meanwhile, New York City Police Department Sergeant John Chell said the case shows why the entire criminal justice system needs to be reexamined.

“This was a bailable offense. We don’t have an answer to why bail was not sought, but there was an opportunity for a judge to step in and remand them back to Rikers. Now, these four are on the bus. We need to look at the whole system,” he said. Said.
