Mika Zibanejad's wife drops significant clue about the star player's future.

Irma Zibanejad is addressing the rumors.

The wife of former Swedish footballer and Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad has dismissed the recent talk surrounding her husband. “Mika’s new coach, Mike Sullivan, was present,” she noted, as translated from the Swedish website Aftonbladet. “It’s surprising how newspapers often report things without proper sources.”

With Sullivan visiting Sweden and the acquisition of a new house in New York, it seems likely that Zibanejad will be ready for the 2025-26 season opener.

Irma’s comments come amid increased speculation regarding the Rangers’ activities this offseason. President and general manager Chris Drury is reportedly looking to reshuffle the locker room after the team has missed playoff contention for the past two years.

Drury’s recent trade of Chris Kreider, a veteran of 13 seasons, to Anaheim signals that many players could be on the move this offseason.

Following Kreider’s exit, Zibanejad’s name has been in circulation more frequently.

Larry Brooks from the Post has stated that Zibanejad, who was best man at Kreider’s wedding in August 2023, has been in regular contact regarding team matters.

Currently, Zibanejad is set to become the longest-tenured Ranger.

Irma also mentioned their new home purchase after selling their West Village townhouse for $13 million, a financial move that has raised questions about Zibanejad’s future in New York.

Despite the speculation, it appears that the 32-year-old is staying put. His eight-year, $68 million contract—signed in October 2021—has a no-move clause and is difficult to buy out due to its bonus structure.

With five years remaining on this contract, Zibanejad’s approval will be needed for any trades the Rangers consider.

In a recent Instagram story, Irma expressed her frustration with the media, stating in Swedish: “The truth is, there’s nothing interesting in these newspaper articles. You find yourself just sitting here as rumors are pulled from thin air.”

Meanwhile, the Rangers were not among the first six players from each of the 12 countries selected for the men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2026 Olympics.

Adam Fox, a Rangers defenseman who made the USA reserves’ cuts in February’s 4 Nations tournament, was not named in the initial roster. Instead, players like Jack Eichel and Auston Matthews were selected.

Zibanejad was among the first six Swedes chosen for the 4 Nations Tournament, but he did not make the cut this time.
