State Department officials cited for allegedly blacklisting Americans and media outlets were previously scheduled to receive refunds.
The Global Engagement Center was included on page 139 of the CR bill that was being considered by lawmakers, but has now been amended and removed from the bill.
“It's a victory,” Liz Wheeler of “The Liz Wheeler Show” told Mike Benz, a former Trump State Department official who has long been at the forefront of rallies against government censorship.
“Thanks to all of you for speaking up and telling Congress, “Get out of here, no more censorship, no more spying on Americans,'' especially when we pretend to fight foreign disinformation and then target targets. “The State Department's tentacles are reaching for you and me,” she continued.
“But my unanswered question about the Global Engagement Center and the fact that it was included in this bill even after it was exposed is why Speaker Mike Johnson “Did he authorize that provision in the draft?’ Because the fact that he authorized it in the bill meant he was fine with renewing that authority and funding it for an additional year. Because it means. Why is he OK with that? ” asks Wheeler.
“Unfortunately, the answer to this is much more complicated than people want to hear,” Benz responded, noting that even if the Global Engagement Center is not reauthorized, “whether it has a formal office or not. Activities will continue regardless of the situation.” ”
“It sounds to me like they're going to take over this agency, but now we can actually investigate and identify them, and they're going to hide these swamp creatures from other agencies.” commented Wheeler, and Benz confirmed it.
Benz has a different answer as to why Johnson allowed GEC in the bill.
“This issue is very important not only to Democrats, but also to all the Republicans in Congress whose major donors and stakeholders correspond, their allies and the capitalists in the foreign policy world who depend on their battering rams. , the State Department, CIA, USAID, and the Department of Defense are the battering rams through which international affairs are carried out to benefit donors,” Benz explains.
