Mike Breen criticized Pistons’ J.B. Bickerstaff for always complaining.

Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff has gained quite a reputation for his constant complaints. Throughout the playoff series with the Knicks, he frequently questioned the referees about Cole, leaving even veteran commentator Mike Breen surprised. Breen, who has been in the game for over three decades, remarked that he’s never seen a coach so vocal right from the opening tip. Clyde Frasier, discussing the situation, suggested that this is part of why he appreciates Bickerstaff, although he added that referee Tony Brothers might not tolerate it much longer, hinting at a potential ejection.

Bickerstaff’s grumbling didn’t stop during the game; it carried over afterward, even though the Pistons led the league in free-throw attempts, averaging 27.8 per game. They ended their season with a dramatic win, thanks to Jalen Branson’s three-pointer in a 116-113 victory, where they shot 33 free throws.

Throughout Game 6, Bickerstaff was noticeably vocal, often seen yelling at Brothers. Breen noted that Bickerstaff was relentless in his complaints. Despite his efforts, Bickerstaff received a technical foul in the second quarter, which allowed Branson to score a crucial free throw, putting the Knicks ahead.

Every coach tends to focus on the referees for potential calls, but it’s hard to deny that Bickerstaff stands out in this regard. Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau defended his team against accusations of foul grifting, even though Branson and his teammate Cade Cunningham were among the leaders in free-throw attempts during the regular season.

After Game 2, Thibodeau commented on the free throw discrepancies, noting the inconsistency and suggesting that Branson deserves his opportunities at the line. Meanwhile, Pistons center Jalen Duren referred to Brunson in a less-than-flattering way during Game 5.

In the end, Breen provided a memorable moment during the game, capturing the excitement after Branson’s last shot. With the Knicks’ victory in this series, they are now gearing up to face the Boston Celtics in the next round, where they’re considered heavy underdogs.
