ProFootballTalk founder Mike Florio once again called out ESPN insider Adam Schefter following reports of a clash between the two teams over the Jaguars re-signing Pro Bowl pass rusher Josh Allen to a five-year contract.
Florio disputed Schefter’s report that Allen’s new contract is worth $150 million ($30 million annually), with $88 million guaranteed. That’s because he (Mr. Florio) initially reported that the contract was slightly less, at $141.25 million.
“(It’s not a $150 million contract. $141.25 million is not a big difference, but why use a number that isn’t the real number?)” Florio wrote in a post about Xtweeted a quote from Schefter’s report.
The Post reached out to Florio for clarification on his reporting. previous story PFT originally reported that the deal was worth $150 million.
Mr. Florio explained that when news of Mr. Allen’s deal first appeared Wednesday morning, he had put $150 million into the first article on Mr. Allen’s website.
Florio then obtained the full details and reported in a post posted at 1:33 p.m. Wednesday that the base price was actually $141.25 million, with an annual average of $28.25 million.
Schefter’s tweet, posted at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday, listed the $150 million figure again, and Florio said he was “reiterating it.”[ed] False Characterization of Contracts.”
“We have made it clear that this is not a $30 million per year contract,” Florio said in an email. “ESPN ignored it and apparently made no effort to confirm it.”

Florio said he believes the problem stems from reporters rushing to be the first in the story and never clarifying the information they initially present.
Florio canceled Allen’s contract to remain with the Jaguars.
“This contract is worth $28.25 million annually,” he said. “To reach $30 million per year, Allen must: (1) have 17.5 sacks; (2) make a Pro Bowl or first All-Pro appearance; each year of the contract; .”
jaguars Announced a contract with Allen.but did not disclose financial terms on Wednesday.
Allen, 26, received the franchise tag from the Jaguars in March and was set to make $24 million in 2024 if he was tendered.
This is not the first time Florio has publicly criticized Schefter’s reporting.
Florio criticized Schefter’s characterization of a story involving Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in January, explaining that the two reporters used to be friends but are no longer related. did.
“Just to preface, Adam Schefter and I used to be friends at one time, but we’re not anymore. I’m just amazed that he can get away with things that others can’t get away with,” Florio said. said during an appearance on the show. “Bernstein and Holmes” “I’m not saying he’s going to get away with this, I’m pointing this out now.
“It would be irresponsible of me to throw out the idea that Ben Johnson’s asking price scared teams off without any further information or context, and without Johnson or his representatives having a chance to respond to the offer. It seems to me that if I did that, I would be dragged away.”
Schefter has not yet addressed Florio’s latest comments.
Allen is coming off his best season to date, earning his second Pro Bowl honor.
Last season, Allen started 17 games and recorded 17.5 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, a career-high 17 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one interception.
The Jaguars selected Allen out of Kentucky with the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
