GOP Enthusiasm Ahead of Midterm Elections

As the midterm elections approach, House Speaker Mike Johnson is urging caution against underestimating GOP voter enthusiasm. He believes that the Democratic Party’s increasingly left-wing agenda will shift voters toward Republicans, even as polls suggest a Democratic advantage at the national level.

“If these Democrats took control of Congress, it would be crazier than during the Obama or Biden-Harris years, because they’ve moved so far to the left,” Johnson stated during a recent appearance on “The Ingraham Angle.” He expressed confidence that this perception will boost motivation among Republican voters.

Johnson criticized the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and highlighted the serious implications of their policies, which include proposals to abolish borders, prisons, and defund police departments—calling these notions potentially dangerous for the country.

“This is not our father’s Democrat Party,” he remarked, observing that the current Democratic candidates represent a significant turn to the left. He emphasized the importance of the upcoming 2026 midterms as a “contrast election,” presenting a clear choice between “common sense” and “crazy.”

Johnson encouraged voters to consider which policies would benefit their families—ultimately recommending a Republican vote. He warned that a Democratic win could lead to retribution against former President Trump and his administration, opening borders, and attempting to repeal recent tax cuts that have helped working families.

His comments come amid polling indicating that Democrats currently hold a lead in the midterm elections, with a recent Reuters-Ipsos poll showing registered voters favoring Democrats by 47% to 36%. Johnson argued that these statistics are misleading and do not capture the genuine enthusiasm among Republican voters, many of whom are reluctant to participate in polls due to distrust.

“The polls are seriously underestimating Republican enthusiasm across the nation,” he claimed while preparing for visits to 21 states in the week leading up to the elections, believing that his travels further affirm his confidence in Republican turnout.

Johnson warned that a Democratic Congress would lead to a chaotic political landscape, stating, “It will be chaos every day for two years in the next Congress. We need to keep Republicans in control, and every single vote will matter.”
