Global Repression Task Force Formed by House Speaker
House Speaker Mike Johnson has established the Global Repression Task Force to denounce alleged genocide carried out by Israel. He also criticized New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, claiming that health department officials are politicizing their roles.
Johnson stated, “Instead of imposing a radical leftist foreign policy, Zoran Mamdani’s Department of Health bureaucrats should be concentrating on delivering the services that New Yorkers fund with their tax dollars,” as noted in a statement made on X.
This criticism follows a report that highlighted the creation of a Global Oppression and Public Health Task Force by DOH officials. This group convened for its inaugural meeting last week during working hours at the health department’s headquarters in Long Island City, Queens.
“We really evolved in response to the ongoing genocide in Palestine,” one presenter reportedly stated at the meeting, aligning with the group’s mission statement, as per video evidence acquired by the newspaper.
There has been a push from critics, including City Council President Julie Menin, for an investigation into whether taxpayer money is being utilized for political purposes by the department.
It’s uncertain if Johnson’s statements indicate that the House of Commons will address this matter.
Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was defeated by Mamdani in last year’s mayoral race, labeled the health department’s politicization a “crime” and urged the City Bureau of Investigation, City Comptroller Mark Levin, and the City Council to pursue investigations.
Cuomo also expressed his frustration in a recent interview, questioning, “Why aren’t you concerned about the mentally ill people who are freezing to death on the streets?” He criticized the Department of Health’s new initiatives focused on public engagement while advocating for a more pressing issue.
Mamdani and the DOH have yet to provide any comment on these recent accusations.
