House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana)'s favorability ratings have declined, according to a new poll, and are even lower than those of Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. show.
According to the Economist/YouGov poll, Johnson's approval rating is 30%, well below Biden's 40% and Harris' 44%. Thirty-six per cent of poll respondents said they had an unfavorable view of Mr Johnson, while 34 per cent said they were “unsure”.
The results show a slight decline in public opinion since last month, when another YouGov poll was conducted. showed Mr Johnson had an approval rating of 33% and a disapproval rating of 34%.
The new survey, conducted on 1,553 American adults between December 15 and 17, comes just as the 1,547-page spending bill negotiated by Prime Minister Johnson was released, with “disappointing and disappointing content”. wrote Breitbart News' Hannah Knudsen. The margin of error is ±3.4 percentage points.
The survey also showed a shift in support for Johnson among Republican voters from November to December. As of November, 55% of Republicans and 64% of Trump supporters said they supported Johnson, while 18% and 16% disapproved. Notably, before last month's investigation, Johnson had been nominated to continue as Speaker of the House with the support of President-elect Donald Trump.
Support among these groups dipped several points in December, weeks before Johnson's formal nomination on January 3. Mr Johnson will need support from a majority in parliament to maintain his position.
A December poll found that 47% of Republicans and 56% of Trump supporters had a favorable view of Johnson, while 24% and 22% had an unfavorable view.
