Mike Lee: America Is the Greatest Country on Earth by Choice, Not Chance

As part of Breitbart’s America 250 coverage, we proudly present America’s Tribute. This special section features original videos sent to us by MPs, Cabinet and Government. All themes are tied together by one simple premise: love of country.

In a video for Breitbart News’ American Tribute Project, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) emphasized that the United States wasn’t just formed by coincidence. Instead, he pointed to the careful planning and efforts of those who came before us.

“America is the greatest country on earth. It’s not by chance or fate, it’s by design,” he stated. “It all began with a group of patriots, outnumbered and outgunned. They held the belief that individuals were granted inalienable rights, which no government could rightfully take away.”

Lee remarked that these founding figures “risked everything” to allow their citizens the freedom to govern themselves rather than remain oppressed under British rule.

He continued, reflecting on the Colonial Americans who escaped religious persecution in England: “They established communities in the wilderness, battled British troops, and created pivotal documents like the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. They staked lives, fortunes, and honor on ideals that many believed would fail, yet they succeeded.”

Lee expressed how America expanded from its original 13 colonies to the current 50 states, saying, “We pushed westward across a rugged continent, with grit and determination, building towns and cities unlike anything the world had seen before, railroad by railroad, mile by mile.”

When Americans have strayed from these core ideals, Lee noted, “we have faced it,” referencing the Civil War as a significant moment of reckoning. He said, “We fought to align our practices with our principles, and a nation once divided found its way back to the truths it was founded upon.”

He also praised America’s role in promoting peace and maintaining dominance abroad. “When tyranny reared its head overseas, Americans crossed oceans in response. But we didn’t stop there,” he explained. “We reached the moon and shaped the modern world. Our advancements in technology, culture, and industry set the global pace.”

“Skyscrapers that soar, roads that unite continents, innovations that transform lives—this is where free people accomplish remarkable feats. This cherished land and our sacred rights symbolize the birthright of Americans,” Lee declared.

He emphasized a commitment to preserving this legacy: “We will not let our heritage be overtaken or surrendered to those who don’t understand it. Instead, it will be nurtured and fortified for future generations,” suggesting a concern about immigration and cultural shifts attributed to opposing political parties.

In closing, Lee remarked, “As we celebrate our 250th anniversary of independence, may God bless America and its people now and in the future.”
