Mike Mazzei Becomes Republican Nominee for Governor of Oklahoma
Mike Mazzei, a former state senator from Oklahoma, has secured the Republican nomination for governor, following an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
On Tuesday, with nearly all votes tallied, Mazzei garnered 186,678 votes, making up 50.3% of the Republican vote. In comparison, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond received 184,631 votes, or 49.7%, according to the Associated Press.
Trump previously praised Mazzei on his Truth Social platform, highlighting his experience as a businessman and his roles in the Oklahoma state Senate and budget office. He categorized Mazzei as a proponent of “AMERICA FIRST Policies” aimed at fostering economic growth, job creation, and energy independence.
Beyond Trump, Mazzei received endorsements from notable figures including Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Make Oklahoma Healthy Again, Oklahoma Conservative Political Action, and the Oklahoma Freedom Caucus.
His campaign agenda, available on his website, emphasizes several key initiatives: eliminating property taxes for seniors and veterans, generating high-paying jobs, safeguarding Oklahoma’s lands from foreign ownership, enhancing government accountability, and reforming education to better equip children for future challenges.
Mazzei has pointed out that rising property taxes in Oklahoma are outpacing family income growth. He views this as a fundamental issue within governmental funding mechanisms and has expressed intent to improve operational efficiency to facilitate tax cuts for seniors.
He also identified a disconnect between existing policies and real-world outcomes, which he believes drives young professionals to seek better-paying opportunities in neighboring states like Texas, Colorado, and Tennessee. This situation, he argues, places undue pressure on small businesses due to burdensome regulations and taxes. His economic strategy includes eliminating unnecessary tax preferences and adopting successful practices from states like Tennessee and Florida, along with a focus on practical education in K-12 schools.
Looking ahead, Mazzei will compete in the general election this November against Cyndi Munson, the Democratic nominee and current state representative for Oklahoma.
In a statement, Mazzei expressed gratitude to Oklahoma voters, emphasizing that this campaign transcends a single election, aiming to restore the state’s potential and uphold its values.
