On America’s 250th anniversary, Mike Rowe expressed that those who struggle with pride in their country might benefit from revisiting its history or even exploring other nations. In a discussion with Fox News Digital, Rowe, founder of mikeroweWORKS, emphasized that celebrities should refrain from presenting political advice. He pointed out that the historical context shows why socialism tends to lose favor over time.
Referring to a Gallup poll indicating that only 53% of Americans feel very proud of the United States, Rowe mentioned he’s not a “mind reader,” but suggested that a lack of understanding about the nation’s past might contribute to that sentiment. He stated, “If you’re not proud of this country, you may not understand where this country comes from.”
He believes that reflecting on the conditions 251 years ago, when the American Dream was just a vision, can illuminate today’s reality. The plethora of negative news, he noted, can lead individuals to form narrow viewpoints about the country. However, the historical foundation of the United States offers a broader perspective.
Rowe remarked on the bravery of the founders who essentially signed a “death warrant” by declaring independence from Britain in pursuit of “life, liberty, and happiness.” Though he acknowledged that the American reality isn’t flawless, he urged people to reconsider their harsh views by understanding their own history and observing other countries.
Discussing the resurgence of socialist politicians in various states, Rowe mused about the cyclic nature of political ideas, where they might fade only to re-emerge later as circumstances evolve. When asked for advice to Republicans facing socialism or Democrats navigating internal divisions, Rowe quipped about the sufficiency of public figures voicing their opinions. He emphasized that his focus resides in the realm of promoting work ethic through mikeroweWORKS. He also highlighted the abundance of jobs in skilled trades, aiming his message at both sides of the political spectrum.
As he addressed concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, Rowe shared a hint of skepticism regarding tech moguls like Elon Musk, expressing a reluctance to solely depend on their vision.
