Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino says he shared son’s choking scare to save lives

(KTLA) — A family dinner at Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s house takes a turn for the worse when his 2-year-old son starts choking on his gnocchi.

“It was a normal dinner at ‘The Situation’ household,” he explained on KTLA 5 Morning News. “Friday night was pizza and pasta night and we were eating pasta and pizza. He wouldn’t chew the food. It slipped down his throat and he started choking.”

Sorrentino and his wife Lauren immediately grabbed a device designed to clear the airway blockage and sprang into action to save their son Romeo.

“I headed over to try to deal with the situation as quickly as possible and she went to get the choking device in the kitchen another way…we were ready,” he continued.

It is worth noting that neither the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, nor the American Heart Association recommend the use of anti-choking suction devices. According to Consumer Reports.

“Data shows that chest thrusts, back thumps, and abdominal thrusts are feasible and effective to relieve airway obstruction caused by severe foreign bodies,” an AHA spokesperson said. “The AHA does not approve or recommend the use of devices to remove airway obstruction caused by foreign bodies.”

The ‘Jersey Shore’ star later shared video of the incident captured by the family’s Ring camera to his 3.4 million followers. Instagram followers.

“I posted this video to spread the word to other parents. I’m grateful that everything turned out well,” he said in a post earlier this month.

The Sorrentinos also have a 1-year-old daughter, Mia Bella, and are expecting their third child, a daughter, in March.

“I know that by disseminating this kind of information, I can help others with what to do and what not to do in a crisis.”

Over the past six years, the GTL (gym, tanning, laundry) enthusiast has shifted his focus to helping others.

Last year, he published his memoir, Reality Check: Making the Best of the Situation – How I Overcame Addiction, Loss, and Prison. This explosive revelation ended his time on the MTV Reality series. He also spoke candidly about his struggle with sobriety and opened up about his time in prison for tax evasion.

On Christmas Eve 2023, he celebrated eight years of sobriety.

“I feel that by sharing my story, I am breaking down barriers and doors and saving lives,” he said proudly.This book is currently at the top Amazon bestseller list.

Sorrentino’s journey has been an emotional one, and he fought back tears as he revealed some of the darkest moments of his life to his “Jersey Shore” castmates.

Sorrentino hopes that by opening up about his own low point, he can help others face it.

“If ‘The Situation’ can do it, anyone else can do it. This is why I shared my deepest, darkest secrets,” he explained.

“I thought everyone knew ‘The Situation,’ not only because I’ve been on TV for 15 years, but then I published this book and they were like, ‘Oh my God!’ did. I can’t put the book down. ” By doing so, I feel I am saving lives. I am making a difference in this journey called life. In my opinion, I’m very proud that this is a bestseller. ”

His story opens many more doors. He revealed that there is also talk of a movie based on the book.
