Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Comments on Ejected Player
On Tuesday, Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, didn’t go into detail about Jalen Ramsey’s ejection from the recent game against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, he shared a meaningful perspective on how one might handle such a situation.
Ramsey was kicked out in the fourth quarter after he reportedly grabbed Chase’s face mask and punched him. Tensions ran high between the two players, and Ramsey later claimed that Chase had spat on him, which led to his aggressive reaction.
Tomlin did acknowledge being aware of Ramsey’s accusations but chose not to comment on the NFL’s decision to suspend Chase for a game.
“I was aware of it. I spoke to Jaylen during the game, which was unfortunate. Incidents like that don’t occur regularly in football and, well, they’re not really about football,” Tomlin said. “I’m not going to comment further. The NFL has made its ruling, and we’ll just move forward now.”
When pressed later about any advice for Ramsey, Tomlin’s response was limited. However, Ramsey made it clear how he feels about the act of spitting.
“If someone spits in your face, I won’t judge your reaction. Just respond naturally,” he stated.
Chase denied the spitting but, oddly enough, video footage contradicted his claim. The NFL cited him for violating conduct guidelines that emphasize sportsmanship.
This suspension means Chase will miss out on over $448,000 in game-day earnings and additional bonuses during his time off.
This weekend, the Bengals will play the New England Patriots as they try to regroup without Chase, while the Steelers are likely to face Chicago without their quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who is dealing with an injury.
