Mike Tomlin Takes Steps Towards Broadcasting Career

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is moving closer to a career in broadcasting.

Tomlin, who stepped down in January after 19 seasons with the Steelers—during which he won a Super Bowl—has signed on with the Montag Group, an agency headed by Sandy Montag.

It’s reported that Alex Flanagan, known for her work with NBC Sports and the NFL Network, will be taking the lead on Tomlin’s representation, helping him negotiate potential contracts with various networks and streaming services.

The Montag Group, part of The Team (previously Wasserman), represents numerous established broadcasters, including Mike Tirico and Jim Nantz.

Following the 2025-26 season, several networks have undergone notable changes. For instance, NBC Sports recently parted ways with “Sunday Night Football” analyst Tony Dungy after a long tenure. Additionally, retired tight end Rob Gronkowski has taken over Jimmie Johnson’s position on Fox’s Sunday pregame show, leaving some openings.

CBS has also announced an available spot on its NFL pregame show after the retired quarterback Matt Ryan was brought back to the Falcons as president of football operations.

After the Steelers’ playoff defeat against the Texans, Tomlin informed team president Art Rooney II of his resignation. This has sparked various rumors about whether he might return to coaching or pivot to television.

Initial speculation suggested that Fox was a likely destination for Tomlin, but he hasn’t made a formal announcement about his future.

This transition comes at a time when Steelers fans are eager for a playoff berth, as the team hasn’t seen postseason success since 2016.

Tomlin’s regular-season coaching record stands at 193-114-2, and he’s never had a losing season with the Steelers. His 201 wins place him among the top ten in NFL history. He famously led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2009 against the Arizona Cardinals, clinching the game 27-23.
