Stan Kroenke’s potential acquisition of the Angels has sparked some conversations, but it seems Mike Trout isn’t ready to change his NFL allegiances.
On Tuesday, Trout shared his thoughts on the Angels’ significant sale to the owner of the Rams. He expressed optimism about the team’s new chapter, all while giving a heartfelt goodbye to former owner Arte Moreno.
“It kind of felt necessary,” Trout remarked. “No negative feelings towards Arte. I’m definitely excited. The team’s energized, and there’s a positive atmosphere at the ballpark.”
Trout emphasized that despite the changes, he values his relationship with Moreno, who took a gamble on him as a 17-year-old prospect from New Jersey and has supported him and his family throughout his career.
Interestingly, Trout didn’t take long to inquire about Kroenke. Following the announcement of the sale, he reached out to a player from the Rams for insights on the new owner.
“I did talk to one Rams player,” Trout said, lightly joking that his teammate Zach Neto may have embellished the extent of their investigation. “I won’t name names, but he had some great things to share.”
Kroenke, known for his successes with the Rams, Nuggets, and Avalanche, could bring about significant changes for the Angels. Some insiders speculate that this ownership shift might even make a trade involving Trout more likely in the future.
However, Trout made it clear he’s not planning to leave anytime soon. “No, my loyalty doesn’t waver with Moreno’s exit,” he said. “I still have four years left on my contract, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.”
Fans of the Angels have already expressed their relief over Moreno’s departure, especially after years of protests, including recent “Sell the team” chants at Angel Stadium.
As for what Kroenke might build, Trout seems curious to see how things unfold.
Still, there’s one part of Kroenke’s sports empire that Trout won’t be embracing. When asked if the new owner might persuade him to don a Rams hat, Trout replied firmly, “I will not.”
This reaction isn’t surprising, considering Trout has been a loyal Eagles fan since his childhood, even becoming a season-ticket holder and a regular at Philadelphia games.
So, while Kroenke may become the owner of a baseball legend, Trout’s heart—especially when it comes to football—remains firmly with the Eagles.
