Jake Paul and Mike Tyson won't be fighting in Texas for a while.
Following the boxer's much-maligned match on Nov. 15, the boxer was suspended for 24 days by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The ban has nothing to do with Paul's triumphant victory, Tyson's languid return to the ring, or even Netflix's buffer-full streaming of the fight from Arlington's AT&T Stadium.
Instead, the TDLR, which sanctioned the fight, requires fighters to rest for three days after each round. That means Paul and Tyson won't even be able to spar for 24 days after their eight-round showdown.
That's not to say those involved aren't busy in the meantime.
Since then, Paul has taken on numerous challenges, including one from heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, who appeared to slide into the 27-year-old's DMs and request a match. .
Tyson took the time to explain the various illnesses that threatened Paul's fight, claiming that Paul “almost died in June” in an X post the day after he collapsed.
“He has undergone eight blood transfusions,” he writes. “I won because I lost half my blood and 25 pounds in the hospital and had to fight to get healthy enough to fight.” ”
Netflix, on the other hand, hasn't been shut down, but it may be on the sidelines for a while.
The streaming giant has gone from its peak, when it boasted record viewership of 108 million viewers in 60 million households worldwide, to the mid-game revelations ahead of a double header scheduled for Christmas. The NFL found itself in a situation where it had to appease the NFL over a serious broadcast issue.
Oh, and there's also the matter of a $50 million class-action lawsuit filed by a Florida man over a glitched stream and one sports lawyer believing several factors could lead to a lawsuit.
For those who were able to watch, Paul won a lopsided decision, improving his record to 11-1, but he received a lot of flak for admitting that he beat Tyson several rounds. I'm bathing.
Tyson walked away from the fight with a guaranteed $40 million salary, Tyson added $20 million to his net worth, and both men were given something to do for the next few weeks in exchange for hanging up their gloves. That meant counting a lot of money.
