Mike Tyson Discusses Health and Upcoming Ad During Super Bowl
This Sunday, as soccer fans tune into the Super Bowl featuring the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, they’ll catch an ad showcasing the iconic boxer, Mike Tyson, for the first time.
Mike Tyson, a boxing legend often referred to as the “baddest man on the planet,” joined FOX News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Prime Time” to talk about his health journey. He shared some candid reflections about his past habits, saying, “I would wake up and not eat anything, just load up on Captain Crunch cereal…sometimes two big bowls for breakfast. Later, I’d maybe snack on some ice cream. My diet was just filled with junk food, and I was drinking a lot…it was a tough time. I really wasn’t taking care of myself; many of my friends—and even my wife—didn’t think I would make it to 60.”
When asked about his recovery steps, Tyson mentioned, “I started by walking—just 10 minutes a day at first. Gradually, I worked up to an hour. I then completely changed my diet. I focused on simple meals like tomato soup, rice, and water.” He emphasized the significance of caring for one’s body, stating, “We only have one body…one chance to enjoy it, so I aimed to be in the best shape possible.”
Tyson has had his share of health issues; before catching a flight to Los Angeles in the summer of 2024 for a bout with Jake Paul, he received medical treatment. At that time, doctors advised him to limit his training to just “minimal to light” activities for several weeks.
In a statement from late May 2024, medical professionals recommended on follow-up discussions that Tyson should minimize training due to a recent ulcer flare-up, aiming to gradually return to full training after a short period. Originally slated for July, the matchup with Paul has now been postponed to November 2024. Though Tyson lost by unanimous decision, the event attracted a record audience, albeit hampered by various technical issues.
Before this anticipated fight, Tyson hadn’t competed since a loss to Kevin McBride by TKO in 2005, though he briefly returned in July 2020 for an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. He expressed excitement about stepping back into the ring, notably mentioning his desire to face Floyd Mayweather Jr., stating, “We’re planning to make it happen around April 25th.”
Though Tyson fought in the heavyweight division, Mayweather excelled in several lower weight classes. Mayweather’s last official victory occurred in 2017 against MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
Tyson also shared his long-standing friendship with former President Donald Trump, recalling how Trump’s influence encouraged him to fight in Atlantic City, even saying, “I wasn’t really into Atlantic City at that time, but he made it appealing, and I even lived there for a few years.”
