Mike Vrabel Displeased with Penalties Despite Patriots’ Victory
On Monday, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel voiced his frustration over the number of penalties his team faced during their 25-19 victory against the New Orleans Saints.
The Patriots committed 11 penalties for a total of 65 yards. Nevertheless, they achieved a total of 333 yards on 58 plays throughout nine drives.
“I’ve had a hard enough job coaching this football team,” Vrabel mentioned during an interview. He went on to describe the officiating as potentially comical at times. “They’re sending out these videos every week, and they’re doing a great job. (Club public relations officer) Walt Anderson is doing a great job. (NFL head of officiating) Ramon George is doing a great job.”
He elaborated that he and Patriots vice president of football operations, John Streicher, keep meticulous notes. “I’ll see something during the game and wonder, ‘Did they even watch the video?'” Vrabel added, indicating he and Stretch often pause and rewind footage, emphasizing their commitment to understanding officiating nuances.
Interestingly, NFL referees seem to be under intense scrutiny compared to their counterparts in other major sports leagues. This season, tensions have risen particularly around what constitutes fair play, especially regarding teams like the Philadelphia Eagles trying to push forward.
As of now, the Patriots have recorded the most penalties across their six games this season out of a total of 54 penalties counted.
With this win, New England improved their record to 4 wins and 2 losses.
