Mike Vrabel shares thoughtful remarks about AJ Brown amid trade speculation

Vrabel’s Comments on A.J. Brown Spark Trade Speculation

Mike Vrabel, who has proven he can handle multiple roles—from linebacker to Super Bowl coach—recently made some noteworthy remarks about Eagles receiver A.J. Brown at the NFL Scouting Combine. This comes after leading the Patriots to an AFC Championship, and, interestingly, amid rumors that Brown might be available for trade. The Patriots are on the lookout for a receiver, which adds an intriguing layer to Vrabel’s praise.

Having coached Brown during his three rookie seasons with the Titans, Vrabel was disappointed when the then-general manager chose to trade him to the Eagles during the 2022 draft without considering an extension for someone who was clearly emerging as a star.

“I think, you know, the dynamics of relationships with players—especially A.J.—are significant,” Vrabel commented. “I’ve seen him grow, mature. It makes me proud, not just of him but of his family as well.” He also emphasized that their connection goes beyond on-field performance, as they keep in touch through both good and challenging times. It reflects a mutual support that’s developed over the years.

This week, the Patriots also signed Stefon Diggs, who had a solid year with 1,013 receiving yards. Tight end Hunter Henry followed next in usage, with Kayshon Butte and Mack Hollins each contributing around 550 yards.

Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman is open to trade discussions and has a reputation for making savvy deals. However, last season, Brown expressed some frustration about his role in the Eagles’ offense, which created some buzz around his future.

Roseman noted, “You never know what someone wants to do. There have been times when unexpected players were traded due to offers that were just too good to pass up, but we’ll weigh our options carefully.”

Meanwhile, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni stated he wishes to retain Brown, who reciprocates that loyalty. Still, he candidly added that he cannot make any guarantees about the roster for 2026.

In a recent podcast appearance, Brown vividly discussed his evolving relationship with Vrabel, describing it as initially rocky but ultimately growing stronger over time, which suggests there’s more complexity to their bond than meets the eye.
