Former Jets receiver Mike Williams said he didn't get much time to work with Aaron Rodgers in the spring and summer as he rehabbed off-season ACL reconstruction surgery, which led Williams to work with Gang Green. He theorized that this was the reason for the quarterback's lack of popularity.
Williams addressed reporters after his first practice with the Steelers after the Jets released the receiver to Pittsburgh before Tuesday's trade deadline.
The 30-year-old called his time in New York “cool” even though he lasted just nine games with the Jets after signing a one-year deal with them in March.
However, things didn't work out as either side expected for Williams, and Rodgers accused Williams of running the wrong route that led to an interception in Week 6 against the Bills.
“Going there after the ACL, there were no OTAs or training camps to get the chemistry right… [Rodgers] It's really detailed. He likes what he likes. “The failure was probably due to not being able to switch quickly enough,” Williams said. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Williams played in all nine games for the Jets this season while starting three.
He had 12 receptions on 21 targets for 166 yards with the Jets.
The receiver expressed optimism about his new opportunity in the Steel City, describing himself as a playmaker.

“I want to make plays. I'm going to put in the work and show that I deserve to be on the field,” Williams said.
Williams played seven seasons with the Chargers before signing with the Jets after the team selected him seventh overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
During his time with the Chargers, Williams had 309 catches for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.
His best season with the organization was 2021, when he rushed for 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns.
