Knicks’ Miles McBride Suffers Injury in Return from Surgery
OKLAHOMA CITY — After two months and 28 games, Miles McBride finally made his return.
However, his situation took a concerning turn.
During the third quarter of Sunday’s 111-100 defeat against the Thunder, McBride seemed to injure his groin again, causing him to limp off the court as fears rose about his previously surgically repaired sports hernia.
Coach Mike Brown expressed uncertainty about the severity of McBride’s condition, stating, “We haven’t consulted the medical staff yet, but this is a challenging situation.” He acknowledged McBride’s efforts in returning, noting, “He didn’t make any shots in the first half, but his energy was felt. It added depth to our game, though we struggled a bit in the second half, partly due to foul troubles, which allowed them to pull ahead.”
McBride’s last play involved diving for a loose ball that fell to Oklahoma City’s Lou Dort, after which he appeared to grab himself in pain.
Earlier in the game, Brown had expressed enthusiasm over McBride’s contributions, saying he had been throwing some “nice punches.” Unfortunately, that optimism didn’t last.
In just 11 minutes, he managed to make three shots but ended up with zero points.
“Deuce has really been one of our top defenders, particularly in pick-and-roll situations. He’s quick and strong, making it tough for opponents to get past him. Plus, he has a great shooting range and can contribute both on and off the ball,” added Brown. “He truly provides a significant boost.”
Jalen Brunson, McBride’s teammate, shared his hope for a quick recovery. With only two weeks left in the regular season, he said, “It’s tough to see. He’s been putting in so much work, so I know he’ll be back strong. We all want him fully healthy.”
In the meantime, Landry Shamet has missed four consecutive games but joined the road trip as the team prepares to face Houston and Memphis next.
Brown mentioned that Shamet is “making progress.”
He also elaborated on his decision to keep the starting lineup unchanged, despite making other adjustments elsewhere. “The starting lineup is crucial, more so than deciding who the eighth or ninth player will be. It’s important to maintain some consistency when possible. If changes are needed mid-game, I’ll make those,” he remarked.
