DETROIT — Myles Russell, a 15-year-old from Florida who became the youngest qualifier in Korn Ferry Tour history, accepted a sponsor’s exemption to make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
“Ever since I started playing golf, it’s been my dream to play on the PGA Tour and test myself against the best,” Russell said Monday. “I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”
Rickie Fowler will attempt to defend his Rocket Mortgage Classic title at the Detroit Golf Club starting June 27.
In April, Russell qualified for the PGA Tour’s development circuit after shooting a 5-under 66 at the ReCom Suncoast Classic in Longwood, Fla. A high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Russell has been taking online classes since the eighth grade.
He was named the United States Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year in 2023, won the Junior PGA Championship by seven strokes and became the youngest player to win the Junior Players Championship.
Russell plans to return to the Detroit area in July to compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club.

“He has accomplished a lot at a young age and has proven himself worthy of this course. We look forward to seeing Miles compete against the best golfers in the world at Detroit Golf Club,” said Jason Langwell, executive director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Earlier this year, the left-hander nearly qualified for a PGA Tour event before losing in a playoff during Monday’s qualifying round at the Puerto Rico Open.
China’s Guan Tianlang is the youngest player to ever qualify for a PGA Tour event. He was 14 years old and the reigning Asia-Pacific Amateur champion when he made the cut for the 2013 Masters.
