Milio’s Sandwich Chain Closes Its Minnesota Location

A well-known sandwich chain in the Midwest is shutting down its final restaurant in Minnesota, giving loyal customers a last opportunity to visit.

Milio’s, which hails from Wisconsin, is closing its shop at 3813 W. 44th St. in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis.

As reported by Bring Me the News, Karan Cruseth, the general manager of Milio’s, posted in a local Facebook group earlier this month that the timing of the closure was “sooner than everyone expected.”

Cruces mentioned the “events and traffic stoppages” that took place in the city back in January, although it’s not entirely clear if he was specifically talking about protests related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis.

The final day of service is set for Tuesday, January 20th, according to the manager.

The note shared with the community encouraged patrons to come by, share their stories, and enjoy a sandwich one last time before the closure. “Thank you, Linden Hills and Edina,” it concluded.

In December, Cruces told the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal that financial issues led to the decision to close the Minnesota location.

The chain has faced a dip in customer traffic recently, resulting in a revenue loss of approximately $80,000, according to Cruseth.

The manager expressed gratitude toward the community, stating, “You guys have been great, and I want to stay open for you forever.” However, he noted the impracticality of potentially raising prices to $15 for a sandwich.

The Linden Hills location had been a staple for nearly two decades, marking the end of Milio’s operations in Minnesota, which had served local fans faithfully.

Post-closure, Milio’s will retain 15 stores across Wisconsin and Iowa. The chain is known for its classic deli-style subs, including a variety of meats, tuna salad, and vegetarian options.

Despite reaching out, Milio’s did not respond to inquiries regarding the closure. The community will surely miss their beloved sandwiches and the charm the shop brought to the neighborhood.
