U.S. Soldier Dies in Iraq During Training
The Department of War has reported the tragic death of a U.S. soldier in Iraq due to a training-related incident.
On Sunday, Sergeant Devin A. Seibel, 26, lost his life at Erbil Airbase while participating in Operation Inherent Resolve, aimed at countering ISIS. A press release from the War Department confirmed his identity and circumstances surrounding his passing.
Seibel hailed from Robinson, Texas, and was part of the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade based at Fort Carson in Colorado.
Following the incident, U.S. Army Central and Third Army noted that the training involved collaboration with the British Army, which also suffered a loss.
The British Ministry of Defence has identified the deceased soldier as Lance Corporal James Freeman, aged 29. He died during a “routine military training activity” while deployed on Operation SHADER in Iraq.
“Our thoughts are with Lance Corporal Freeman’s family, friends, and Regiment at this devastating time,” the ministry shared on social media.
Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs, located near Fort Carson, expressed condolences for Seibel’s death, stating that the community mourns alongside his family and fellow soldiers.
“Sgt. Seibel answered the call to serve our nation with courage, dedication, and selflessness. We are deeply grateful for his service and sacrifice,” Mobolade wrote online.
