Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Wednesday in CNN's “Situation Room” that millions of Americans call President Donald Trump's actions in dealing with Ukraine “a complete embarrassment.”
Schiff said: And I have to say this. It is one of the most shameful events in modern history, along with the United Nations resolutions that betrayed Ukraine, which the US sided with Russia. Not only does the millions, millions of Americans who are watching this disagree with the President, but perhaps for the first time, we have betrayed our allies, which makes us embarrassed. ”
He continued. “We not only betrayed our allies, we betrayed our principles. Are there anything but transactions? We have no commitment to democracy, no commitment to allies. It's all about money. It's like Donald Trump's orientation. But what a sad chapter in our history.”
Schiff added: “The Ukrainians have made a tremendous amount of sacrifice, and are now being returned to this by his most important ally, the United States, and have been given little or no offer of some fig leaf of his country's mineral wealth in hand,” Schiff concluded. “It's really just tawdry, but this administration has reduced our allies.”
