Milner police chief and entire department step down over mayor's actions

Resignations Rock Milner, Georgia Officials

During a city council meeting on Monday, it was revealed that the entire full-time police department and the city manager of Milner, Georgia, have resigned. The announcement was made by City Manager Tausha Grose.

“It is with my extreme sorrow that our entire full-time police department has resigned, most of our part-time police. And also, I’ve filed my resignation with the city clerk today,” Grose stated.

Milner Police Chief Lamar Bunn raised serious concerns, claiming that city hall had covertly placed a tracking device on his vehicle without informing him or the city leaders. He also denied allegations of an affair with the city manager.

“City Hall every day, it’s got a tracker on my truck, it was bought with personal funds and placed on my vehicle without the city council or my supervisor, city administrator knowing it,” Bunn expressed at the meeting. He continued, saying that despite everything, he still felt a sense of attachment to Milner, noting his longstanding roots in the area.

Mayor Craig Timmons acknowledged the issues raised and expressed hope for a resolution. The council had previously disputed matters involving police overtime and a proposal regarding city vehicles for part-time work, although these were not cited as reasons behind the mass resignations.

In his resignation letter, Bunn indicated that he was stepping down due to conflicts with city leadership surrounding legal and ethical issues. He mentioned, “I have determined that it is in my best interest to step down at this time due to fundamental differences regarding leadership, governance, and ethical alignment.”

Other police department staff echoed Bunn’s sentiments. Milner Police Captain Craig Walton also called for an independent investigation into the mayor’s actions within his resignation letter, urging the community to take these concerns seriously.

Several other employees from the police department cited similar disagreements as their reasons for leaving, highlighting a growing tension within the city leadership. Fox News Digital attempted to reach Mayor Timmons for further comment.
