Milwaukee news team catches wild moment driver crashes stolen car and runs away

A team of reporters from Milwaukee’s TMJ4 News captured the moment a pair of burglary suspects collided with a stolen car while reporting on unrelated shootings in the area.

Reporter Kaylee Stallal was interviewing local residents when her car struck a car parked on the opposite side of the road. Two men got out of the car, but the man in the passenger seat appears to have been injured in the accident. The driver fled, leaving the injured man behind and hiding his face.

The injured man crawled out of the car. Two bystanders then grabbed his legs and tried to pull him away from the wreckage.

“That car could have killed someone.”

Milwaukee police confirmed to Stallal that the car was stolen. TMJ4 reported that the car’s impact was strong enough that a parked minivan crashed into an unmarked Milwaukee Police Department squad car. The passenger is reportedly 16 years old.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson responded to the video, saying, “The passenger in the video you just showed me couldn’t even stand up, couldn’t even move.” “He fell trying to get out of the car. You don’t want that to happen to your child or the child you care about. Let’s talk and stop this.”

“I saw the first child, the driver. He got out of the car and ran. I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said a witness who was just a few feet away from the crash scene. Mariam McEachern told TMJ4. “That car could have killed someone. It flew out onto the grass. There were children on the grass.”

Auto theft remains a major problem in Milwaukee, despite a 41% decrease. Towards the end of 2023, the city reported 5,838 cars stolen.
