Minnesota Attorney General’s Legal Battles with Trump Administration
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison shared on Wednesday that he has taken legal action against the Trump administration over 50 times, expressing his commitment to the Democratic cause to a group of activists, stating, “You can count on me.”
These remarks were made during a virtual DNC debate featuring DNC Chairman Ken Martin and other notable Democrats. Ellison’s comments were met with applause as he reiterated his resolve to challenge Trump’s policies.
“Just leave it to me to take action against the Trump administration. We’re currently involved in over 51 lawsuits, including one related to Operation Metro Surge,” Ellison noted.
Martin highlighted that, in his view, the Trump administration has been specifically targeting Minnesota due to its Democratic presence.
“Minnesota is being zeroed in on precisely because it represents the contradictions inherent in Donald Trump’s vision against racism,” Martin argued. “It reflects America’s best qualities—a multiracial democracy where people of all backgrounds come together to build lives. It’s about being good neighbors, not merely pursuing political advantage.”
Both Martin and Ellison also advocated for impeachment proceedings against the Department of Homeland Security, particularly calling out Kristi Noem, unless she is dismissed by Trump.
On another front, President Trump expressed his unwavering support for Noem, defending her performance despite recent backlash tied to incidents involving federal agents in Minnesota.
“Democrats in the House are pushing for Kristi Noem’s immediate removal. If the president doesn’t act, we are prepared to follow through with impeachment actions,” Martin indicated.
Ellison emphasized the importance of mobilizing for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, insisting, “We need the gavel,” which suggests they need control of Congress to initiate impeachment.
“This is the time, folks. We must act in multiple arenas. And safeguarding our election process from being undermined is crucial,” Ellison added.
