Scrutiny Surrounds Ilhan Omar as Investigation Continues

A notable Minnesota Democrat, who previously served in the state’s House of Representatives, spoke out on Thursday, suggesting that he finds the federal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., to be credible. This signals a shift in the political landscape as multiple scandals and inquiries regarding the congresswoman continue to mount.

Joe Radinovich, a former state representative from 2013 to 2015 and a member of the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), expressed on X that “Democrats should understand that the allegation is almost certainly true—whatever conclusion they draw from that point could vary.” He was referring to the claims that Omar married her brother as part of a supposed fraudulent immigration scheme.

Radinovich added that, beyond the immigration investigation, there could also be significant issues related to her finances. He advised caution when discussing the financial allegations, noting, “no meaningful questions have been answered publicly, and where any objective look at the evidence doesn’t look…great.” His comments emphasize the complexity of the situation.

The investigation into Omar’s alleged marriage to her brother was first initiated during the Obama administration. Radinovich, who remains well-connected within DFL, has previously worked on various significant campaigns, including Rick Nolan’s congressional run in 2016 and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s campaign in 2017.

In response, Briana Rose Lee, an activist and former operations director for Omar’s campaign, dismissed Radinovich’s claims as a “witch hunt,” expressing her surprise at his stance.

Radinovich stood firm on his statements, acknowledging that although he has doubts about the Trump administration’s credibility, he is “pretty confident this specific allegation is true.” His remarks illustrate that the scrutiny surrounding Omar’s issues is not limited to conservative factions.

Major media outlets like The New York Times and MSNBC also report on possible evidence suggesting that Omar’s marriage and citizenship may have been fraudulent. Although no criminal charges have been filed against her, significant concerns have emerged. On October 12, 2026, Omar’s Washington, D.C. residence was raided by Homeland Security Investigations, leading to the seizure of her passport, phone, and computer.

There are even reports stating that investigators have obtained Omar’s DNA following the raid. Interestingly, her sister, Sahra Noor, was questioned shortly after the incident, reportedly opting out of her book tour for what was described as a “family emergency.

The probe focuses on whether Omar or her late father, Nur Mohamed, may have fraudulently completed her citizenship paperwork decades ago, which could potentially lead to denaturalization proceedings.

Ongoing rumors about Omar’s alleged marriage to her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, have persisted since her initial campaign for state representative in 2016. A court filing from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. referred to Omar in a way suggesting a connection to her 2009 marriage, raising more questions.

While Omar’s office has consistently denied any allegations of immigration fraud, labeling them as politically motivated attacks, the former president’s administration did in fact launch an investigation into her marriage back in 2016, which remained active until being closed by the Biden administration in 2021 because it was believed that the statute of limitations on any potential wrongdoing had lapsed.

In a reaction to Radinovich’s comments, Omar’s campaign released a statement asserting that he is a “deeply troubled individual” harboring an “irrational obsession” with the congresswoman. They called his claims unfounded and biased, suggesting that he is more of a mouthpiece for corporate interests than a genuine political figure.
