Minneapolis Shooting Incident Update

Minneapolis – Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a shooting suspect in Sibley County, Minnesota. The suspect, 57-year-old Belter, is facing charges of murder in connection with the deaths of Minnesota Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. This incident occurred at their home early Saturday morning. Additionally, Belter is accused of the shooting deaths of Democrat Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at a residence nearby.

Drew Evans from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) stated that law enforcement is actively seeking to locate Bortle, who has federal and local warrants out for his arrest. “We have received information prompting a search in Sibley County,” said Evans, who noted that items resembling the suspect’s hats have been found in the area. He urged anyone in Sibley County who observed anything suspicious to reach out to law enforcement.

Authorities are currently reviewing around 400 tips and characterized the search’s status as “fluid.” Reports suggest Belter had strategically targeted lawmakers, and eyewitnesses claim he arrived at homes clad in attire similar to police uniforms and masks.

Senator Amy Klobuchar shared a message from Hoffman’s wife, revealing the severity of their injuries. Yvette indicated that John was shot nine times while she sustained eight gunshot wounds. “We are incredibly fortunate to be alive,” Yvette wrote, expressing devastation over the losses of Melissa and Mark. “This kind of political hatred has no place.”

Reports indicate that Bolter had written a phrase in his vehicle: “there is no king,” amidst a backdrop of protests across various U.S. cities against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement measures scheduled for the same day.
