Suspect in Killing of Minnesota Lawmakers Captured

After a tense, two-day search, Vance Boerter, the man accused of murdering two Minnesota lawmakers, has been apprehended. Both state legislators and the governor have expressed their gratitude toward those involved in the operation to bring him to justice.

House Speaker Lisa Demus took to social media to share her relief over Boerter’s capture, suggesting that the ongoing ordeal was over. She remarked, “I am grateful that this nightmare has come to an end with the suspect in custody. We can now address the fear he instilled in Minnesota.”

Governor Tim Waltz thanked law enforcement for their dedication during this challenging time, stating they left their families to ensure justice for victims Melissa and Mark Hortman.

Boerter, 57, was taken into custody in Sibley County following a manhunt linked to the tragic shooting of former Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband early Saturday morning at their home in Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis.

The governor stressed the importance of community unity, noting that violence cannot become a part of normal life. He urged people not to be paralyzed by fear, reinforcing that divisiveness has only become more evident in recent days. “We must confront our issues without resorting to hatred or violence,” he emphasized.

Waltz also encouraged the community to support the memories of the slain couple, acknowledging their profound loss. He expressed his gratitude to law enforcement professionals for their bravery and professionalism during the arrest process, stating, “You saved lives.”

In a show of solidarity, Minnesota Senator Amy Cronbucher praised the efforts of the officers involved, referring to their work as “mammoth and heroic.”

The aftermath of this tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by public servants and the need for collective healing in the community.
