Minnie Driver’s complicated family relationships almost led her to make “the biggest mistake” of her life.
“Looking back at my past, I realized I had a strong desire to get married and chose a man who was not the right man for me to marry,” Driver said. The Sunday Times“So I will continue to hope to get married and have a more conservative version of it. [of a relationship]find someone who isn’t interested in that, and if you find someone who is, run a mile.”
Driver’s parents separated when she was six, and she learned they had never been legally married by the time she was 12. During their relationship, her father married another woman and started another family.

She admitted, “Once I got engaged, I think it was the biggest mistake of my life.”
Josh Brolin and Driver first met while filming Slow Burn. The couple became engaged in April 2001 but split in October of the same year.
“Minnie Driver and Josh Brolin have decided to cancel their wedding plans. Their decision is mutual and amicable,” a statement from her publicist released to ABC at the time read.
Representatives for Driver and Brolin did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Brolin married Diane Lane in 2004 but divorced in 2013. He married Kathryn Boyd in 2016, with whom he remains together.
Driver has never been married but is currently in a relationship with writer and director Addison O’Dea.

“Right now, even though I don’t want to get married, I’m with the most dedicated, loving, extraordinary man,” she said. “He’s everything I ever imagined a husband to be as a child.”

Driver recalled that when her mother left her father, the court told her she had to buy a house and remarry within seven weeks to maintain custody of the children. She managed to do so, but admitted she never particularly liked the man she married.

“I hated my stepfather intensely,” she said, adding that she believed her mother told her about her father’s secret family “in a rather self-serving way, to try to reassure me about her choices.”

She added: “Instead of explaining what was going on to her kids, my mother told me in the middle of an argument, in a moment of rage. It’s not okay, but I understand. Maybe it’s just a part of getting older. You hear all about your parents’ shortcomings and you think, ‘Oh yeah, I know why they did that, because they did it last week.'”
