Minor league baseball player baptized by teammate

Minor league baseball player Wes Clark was baptized by his teammates on the field in Nashville, Tennessee.

Clarke plays first base for the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Baptism is 4-1 In a game against the Memphis Redbirds, right fielder Brewer Hicklen hit a two-run home run to win the game.

“I just asked God.”

Following their stellar performance, Hicklen also took on the task of performing a baptism for a fellow Christian. Both men wore T-shirts that read “Jesus Won” while Clark was baptized on the playing field at First Horizon Park.

“Yesterday I had the privilege of being baptized on the field by one of my best friends. [Brewer Hicklen] After the game, Clarke said: Instagram“Thank you Jesus for this amazing moment in my life. I am incredibly happy to be surrounded by so many supporters. It was truly a special night!” the first baseman wrote, along with a photo of his pregnant wife, who was also in attendance.

The 28-year-old Hicklen had a rather unique path to performing a baptism for his teammates. After playing six major league games in 2022, Hicklen was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Philadelphia Phillies organization in August 2023. Sports Spectrum report.

Hicklen elected free agency that November and wondered to himself and God where he would end up.

“I just asked God to put me in a place where I felt I could have some impact and have an opportunity to make lasting connections with my teammates,” Hicklen recalled.

Just three weeks later, he signed with the Brewers, at which point he felt he could become the team’s spiritual leader. He joined a Bible study group that grew from just four or five people to 10 or 12, he said.

More professional athletes are openly representing their faith, and organizations are incorporating faith into their teams, such as the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, which made headlines with its prayer circles led by team chaplain Kenneth Locke.

Chaplain said part of his role is to regularly ask players what they can do to become better people, and they have responded.

Clark, 24, a native of Richmond, Virginia, played at a Christian academy in high school before going on to play three seasons at the University of South Carolina. He was selected by the Brewers in the 10th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
