‘Miracle’ to be on ESPN

Dick Vitale was emotional while discussing his fight against cancer on Saturday night.

The legendary announcer was torn apart as he wanted the ESPN broadcast, which won Louisville 73-62 in the ACC Tournament Championship Game, and was torn apart while talking to fans.

“It's like a miracle to sit here with you guys,” Vitale said. “I can't tell you how much you mean to me. It was incredible. Three tough years. These four cancer battles. I don't want that to anyone. Cancer sucks.”

The 85-year-old Vitale announced in December that he has no cancer after four fights with the illness in just three years.

Saturday was called the only ACC tournament game Vitale as Doctors advised him not to call for more than a week after undergoing multiple vocal cord surgeries.

He had cancerous lymph nodes that were removed from his neck last summer and was treated for melanoma and lymphoma before that.

Last year, Vitale received radiation therapy for vocal cord cancer.

“It's my last match of the year and I'm praying. Of course I can come back next year. “I hope my doctor will really help me with my voice.”

Vitale also took a little time to thank his ESPN colleagues.

“I want to thank all my fans, very beautiful people, all my people at ESPN for enduring and holding back on me in terms of my problems I have had,” Vitale said. “You were amazing.”
