Miranda Devine Questions JD Vance About Possible Tension With Marco Rubio Over Leadership of 2028 GOP Ticket

Vice President J.D. Vance on 2028 Presidential Nomination Dynamics

During a recent episode of “Pod Force One,” host Miranda Devine posed a question to Vice President J.D. Vance about potential friction between him and Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the 2028 Republican presidential nomination.

On the same day, President Donald Trump made headlines by announcing his intention to run for a third term. He also highlighted both Vance and Rubio as possible contenders for the upcoming nomination. In his discussion, Vance assured Devine that he has a solid relationship with Rubio, dismissing notions of conflict.

Devine noted the age difference, pointing out that Rubio is 13 years older and has previously campaigned for the presidency. This raised the question of tension between the two; however, Vance laughed, emphasizing their friendship and collaborative work. He mentioned, “There won’t be any tension. Marco is my best friend in the administration. I think a lot of the good work we’ve done so far is because we’ve all been able to work together.” He added that worrying excessively about politics can be counterproductive.

Reflecting on his own ambitions, Vance remarked, “I never want to wake up… and think, ‘How can I be president of the United States?’ Instead, I focus on, ‘How can I be a good vice president?'” He believes that Rubio likely shares a similar mindset regarding his role as Secretary of State.

Political analysts, including CNN’s Harry Enten, have suggested that Vance is in a favorable position for the 2028 nomination, given his lead in early polls and the historical success of sitting vice presidents pursuing their party’s nomination. Other notable figures, such as Democratic strategist James Carville and Republican strategist Scott Jennings, have echoed this belief, indicating that Vance may indeed be on the ticket. Mark Halperin also mentioned that both Vance and Rubio could be contenders, without specifying a frontrunner.

Moreover, Rubio himself acknowledged Vance’s potential, saying on Fox News that if he were to run, “J.D. Vance would be a great candidate.”
