Miranda Lambert Embraces New Cowgirl Vibes

Miranda Lambert is really leaning into her cowgirl side these days.

In a chat on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, the 41-year-old country star shared insights about her lifestyle and some new interests. She mentioned that she recently picked up shooting as a hobby. “I just started last year. I’m not great at it, but I love it,” she said. Lambert credited her friend Ken Schoen, a ten-time champion in mounted shooting, with introducing her to the activity.

She admitted to Rogan that she hesitated to try it at first. “I just didn’t have the courage, you know? Eventually, my husband said, ‘Stop talking and just go do it.’ And wow, I was hooked instantly. It’s really something different,” she explained.

According to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, this sport involves using two .45 caliber revolvers loaded with specially prepared blank rounds. Participants are judged on accuracy and speed, with penalties for missed targets or dropped guns. Rogan seemed taken aback by Lambert’s newfound interest, joking that the sport is “pretty wild west,” and quipping about the training involved.

Lambert reflected, “It’s really fun. It’s like turning 40 and diving into a new hobby. It helps clear my mind. I think it’s essential to try new things, especially in the music industry where everything gets a bit overwhelming.” She also shared some lighthearted insights about her husband, Brendan McLaughlin, a former NYPD officer. After they got married, she joked about moving him from New York City to Tennessee, and now, he’s embracing the Southern drawl.

While discussing their backgrounds, Lambert highlighted some similarities despite their different upbringings. “His family is police officers, just like mine. In a way, that’s what bonded us. We both come from families deeply connected to law enforcement,” she said.

The couple has settled into a routine between Nashville and Texas. Lambert noted her father also served as a police officer, and she drew parallels between him and her husband, especially regarding hearing loss from gunfire exposure. “Many of my friends who shoot have that issue too,” she remarked.

In a humorous anecdote, she described how her father’s hearing aids were destroyed by their dog, leading her to wonder if he purposefully avoided replacing them. “Is that on purpose, Dad?” she pondered. She added that her husband sometimes struggles to hear her, which leads to amusing misunderstandings, like when she asked about a banana he didn’t bring home.
